The Walt Award Scholarship

 

The Walt Award is a scholarship named in honor of Dr. Walther Neiswanger, who through his generosity and community development work, left a lasting imprint on the lives of many people in the Midwest region. The Walt Award Scholarship is a possible 4-year scholarship, with $1,000 being awarded each year. The essence of this scholarship is centered around the spirit of service to community.  In keeping with that spirit, the recipient of the Walt Award will be asked to provide 20 hours of community service each year in the community they and/or their families reside in. 

Eligibility
1. Applicants must be a high school senior attending school in the Black Hills area in good academic standing to graduate with plans to pursue post-secondary education at a community college or four-year institution of higher learning, or   a student currently enrolled in post-secondary education.
2. Relative of an employee of a Black Hills area nonprofit and/or relative of employees of for-profit companies working in the nonprofit sector.
3. Academic major or area of study has no bearing on the selection process.
4. School enrollment will need to be verified each year for the scholarship to be renewed. 

Applications for this scholarship are due by April 15th.
