The Deerfield Scholarship

Mike Sawyer of Deerfield, SD was a beloved neighbor, friend and veteran. He was the kind of person who would help anyone who needed a hand and was a true friend and gentleman to all who crossed his path. He was a caring man and was always checking in on those who might need a little help or a kind word. Mike Sawyer passed away on August 27th, 2018 leaving behind a legacy that will not be easily forgotten. In every essence of Mike’s life, he was always thinking of giving back. This is evidenced by the fact that he left an endowment with the Black Hills Area Community Foundation with the sole purpose of providing scholarships to Hill City High School students.
